Does NetworkManager support server distributions?
If so, why do I get a duplicate profile on the card when changing the address via NetworkManager?

Supports.
Because NM creates a separate profile for each subnet it knows.
For example, on a laptop in a home DHCP network, and in a corporate statics. The NM will attempt to apply the appropriate neighbor-based profile from the ARP request.
