Does Linux/Unix have a certificate store like the windows keystore?
Or are the certificates stored in the clear in the /etc/ssl/certs folder?

in Linux they go from the principle "everything is a file" and try to store everything as separate files in the file system. it is convenient and visual.

Specify what you need. JKS, PKCS12 in Linux can be done without problems, for example.
