Installing and configuring the web server

Good afternoon.
It's time to learn how to administer web servers yourself. For these purposes, I bought a simple VPS.
And then the question arose: where to start? All that I found was reduced to the dumbest set of commands, without a sensible description of what and why.
Where can I read in detail about lifting and configuring: apache+mysql+php, ftp? I think this is enough for me to start.

Set up out of necessity, focus on a specific goal, and learn a lot along the way using search engines, because a lot has been written.

Read about nginx together with Apache, apache is good of course, but nginx is better :)

Agree with: need specific tasks.
A couple more very practical ones: support for several versions of PHP or other interpreters, returning statics through a “layer”, etc.: walk around the hosters and see what they have interesting

“Where can I read in detail about lifting and configuring: apache+mysql+php, ftp?”
Oddly enough:
Apache: httpd.apache.org/
MySQL: www.mysql.com/
PHP: www.php.net/
FTP: to taste www.pureftpd.org/ www.proftpd.org/ vsftpd.beasts.org/
Use Google Luke!

VDS? It is worth paying considerable attention to security:
- close password access via SSH;
- install Firewall and Denyhosts.
Read more in the default language here .
But in general, you can read a nice description on the issue here .
