Does it make sense to switch to learning javascript?

Studied java wrote a couple of small applications. I decided to deal with java servlets and write some big project. I realized that I need some tools for the frontend. They advised me to learn react (I understood Javascript a little). Is it worth taking a break from java and moving on to learning react?

The question is why js is needed, I’ll say right away that it has nothing to do with java except for the name.
so, if it’s purely for the front-end, then there’s no point in going deep, it’s enough to deal with jQuery ... why learn the language if you have to throw a couple of handlers and that’s all ...
if you are interested in js as a development tool, then learn , I personally think the language is very promising, no other language is developing as rapidly as js.

The frontend of today is an independent discipline of developing applications that can work independently, without a backend. If you are planning to develop web interfaces, then you cannot do without JS. Especially for developing applications, not websites, the whole logic of which is to make smooth scrolling, animation or show / hide elements. Which framework to choose is already a detail and they are decided in the context of each project separately.

You can get so distracted that you only switch to learning the frontend. Choose what is your priority.
On the client, you can put a very primitive js application that will reflect the work of the backend. If you want to be beautiful, you need to hand over the work to a designer/front-end developer.
