Means physical virtual.

No, it doesn't make sense.
We moved away from individual disks a long time ago, use LVM.

As soon as you come up with the expediency, the question will disappear immediately.
I don't always see this need even on dedicated servers.

It makes sense to put on separate partitions what can eat up all the space (or inodes) on the disk. Logs, DB. If the site has an upload, then you can take it out. This is done in order not to break the root FS.
