Does it make sense to have a single redirect page to external resources?

There is a tourist-oriented site, the pages of which contain a number of links to external resources (about a thousand).
Does it make sense to make all links through some single redirect page, like /away.php?url=http://....? How does this affect search engine optimization, and does it affect at all?
If so, which is better: a redirect on the server side or a redirect using JS on the client side with some delay?
