I have been laser engraving Apple products for 6 years, so I know what I'm talking about.
According to Apple's rules, the warranty is voided only on the keyboard. In all my practice, I have not come across the fact that the keyboard has broken: usually it is a battery, monitor or motherboard (logic board).
But we live in Russia: some services perfectly repair engraved laptops, some refuse to repair. Therefore, feel free to engrave if the laptop, God forbid, breaks during the warranty - every second service will gladly fix you for free.
