Used banana pro. originally I wanted to make an asterisk server, but it needs more resources than it has (maximum 5 simultaneous calls with g711 without mp3 support) now it works as a file cleaner with torrents and long (openmediavault on lemaker offsite. I haven’t played with gpio. The toy is worth the money if ordered on Ali. And what do you want to do with it? The image of the manufacturer is sufficient to be interested in. There is a forum with its own community, but there are much fewer projects than on the same raspberry.
Of course, it's too late to answer, but I will. I ordered Banana PI on Aliexpress exactly a year ago. During this time, I had a banana and a server in a bunch of NGINX + PHP-FPM + Yii2, and a file dump with Transmission and an Android media player.
All functions except for the server performed well. I read 1TB disks via SATA without problems, both 2.5 and 3.5, but for the latter I did external power supply. 2.5 are powered by the board. (additional connector).
At the expense of the OS, there were LUBUNTU, Android 4.4.
In general, the thing is excellent for file trash. Linux + 1GbLan + Sata disk worked perfectly.
For all the time of work, there were no glitches with it, it works in 24x7 mode. Now, of course, I would take something more powerful, since I need such a thing as a full-fledged computer.
I don’t know about the device itself, but the image of the manufacturer does not inspire confidence.
I have not used it for practical purposes yet, but I will launch it one of these days. In appearance and tactile sensations - a good device. According to TTX - excellent. The network works on 5+. Pleased with the presence of a mass of buildings for different purposes. In addition, as an option, you can additionally order a heatsink on a chip from the manufacturer (for example, for long-term loads and / or installation in a warm place). If you roughly describe the purpose of use - I can give a more detailed answer.
