Does anyone have a simple hidden wiring finder circuit without field effect transistors and microcircuits?

Previously, at school, I did it according to some scheme, literally a pair of transistors like K315 resistance, an LED. Together with batteries, it was placed in a lipstick case)
And now I can’t find anything similar.
Or tell me more ways to find a burned-out light bulb in a Chinese garland.
The searcher quickly turned it on, ran it along the wire, where it went out, there was a break.

The closest the Fault Finder has found to a garland with an audible indicator

Needle on tester/ohmmeter probe or battery/u with LED+resistor
limiting max. current through the diode.
(one end of the device to one end of the wire, and with the second we poke directly into the wire near the lamp)
NOT CONNECTING TO THE OUTLET :)))
and went to check from the middle, reducing the number of "poke"
those. if 40 lamps, then for one "tyk" we will check 20
then from this half another half, etc.
2-3 years ago I did this

In the construction markets and in all sorts of household stalls, 70-100 rubles are lying around Chinese GK31 probe screwdrivers and the like (not neon). It is quite suitable for searching for a burned-out lamp, and it will come in handy on the farm.
However, most likely a neon probe is also quite suitable. Well, or solder the “probe” yourself from a neon and a resistor, just take a 300-400 kOhm resistor for greater sensitivity. But with such a value of the resistor - it is contactless to check !!!!!!
