Does a Mac work fine with an external ssd?

Hello!
I decided to upgrade with MBP 13” i5/8Gb/256Gb, because in fact, if it was still bearable to work with docker before the project arrived, now it’s almost unbearable.

I ordered a Mac mini M1 16Gb / 1Tb, but did not immediately notice that it would arrive not at the end of October, but at the end of November. Which is somehow very long.
By availability, I found the Mac mini M1 16Gb / 256Gb option and an external 1Tb SSD in Thunderbolt.
But this begs the question, how normal will all this work if all the data of Docker, DB, Androyd Studio and other Flutters is kept on an external SSD? Those. not only the sources themselves and the graphics of the projects, but also keep the SDK / NDK on the external one, since 256Gb is just very little for all these things (I checked).

@xez

40 gigabits / s (thunderbolt 3 speed) = 5 gigabytes / s
SSD speed (for example WD Black SN75) - 3 GB / s It
remains to find a suitable case and everything should work fine.

It will work great! An SSD drive via USB3 will also work great, and you can save an extra $50 on a wonderful interface :)))
Buy a separate box with usb3 and a separate SSD, insert one, into another and into the third - it will be good.
PS. And yes, usb3 is not that hot, in a physical sense :)

If you want the full speed of a pci-e SSD - wait
If you want enough USB 3.0 and want to carry an external drive with you - take it right now ...
