Do you need to optimize your bank website for retina?

Good afternoon!
I am making a website for a bank, and there was a need to optimize it for retina displays. I read popular articles on this topic on Habré, but since they were written in 13-14 years and they also say that this task is still solved only with crutches, which are selected depending on the task, that is, how images are inserted through css or the img tag.
The crux of the matter is that I would like to hear from experienced users who is coping with this task. What are the new methods for solving this problem? How are large sites like 500px, tumblr and the like optimized?
