Do you need an HTML sitemap, have you ever used it?

Greetings
I sometimes use a sitemap on a couple of my sites to cut down on one or two mouse clicks. I thought about whether people use such cards at all, whether they need them or one in a million needs them.
The structure of the site is complex, multi-level. Theoretically, it can help, but some vague doubts about its necessity torment me.
Do your sites have an HTML sitemap? If so, do people use it or not?

If the structure is confusing - the site is going to hell
If the structure is confusing and after switching from a search engine, I got to the left page - the site is going to hell

A sitemap is needed to speed up the indexing of a site by search engines.
Users do not need it from the word at all. If you have poor navigation or an inconvenient interface, the user will simply leave, and will not understand some kind of site map.

Just go to the personal account on nic.ru)
The most optimal navigation for people is a full-screen "quick transition" menu (sometimes "speed dial"), consisting of 5-7 items indicating the most predictable goals of the visitor with a "live" search in all sections site.
1. For service robots (SEO check if the site is a SPA, etc.): sitemap.html
2. For search robots: sitemap.xml
3. For humans and robots: RSS/Atom

All the SEOs with whom I collaborated want such a map on the site, probably this has some effect on the issuance of search engines.
