Do select VeraCrypt volumes have hardware affinity?

Already lost data twice. I want to understand the issue.
The last time the sequence of actions was like this.
1. Create a container with files inside.
2. Add it to favorites for automatic mounting to the system.
3. Make a copy of the container.
4. We form a hard disk on which the container was located.
5. Restore the container from the copy to its original location.
6. When mounting (both automatic and manual), the container is empty, there are no files.

Apparently it has something to do with automounting volumes, but I don't fully understand how. I didn't see any references in the VeraCrypt instructions either. Bug? Feature? How to avoid such a scenario?

Forgot to unmount the container before making the copy?
There's this old joke: https://www.google.com/search?q=What+will be%2C+if+...
So copying a container "at full speed" (i.e. without unmounting) is a bit like .
