Programming puzzles are a very good help to get a normal job.
Offtopic, about 5 years ago I learned to juggle. Maybe this is a trick, but I noticed how much the ability to concentrate has grown. I can keep my attention on the subject/task much longer than before. For example, now I am simultaneously writing this comment, writing code, and also juggling.

Puzzles strengthen neural connections and keep the brain in good shape. For example, I like www.codewars.com. Tasks for every taste, allow you to escape from the routine and sometimes recklessly.

Will head washers help? No. If they are with a HELL level of difficulty for you? That is possible yes. If you solve typical problems that can be solved if you just think about it, then there is no sense in it. It's more like gymnastics. Stretched mosk and further with clarity of mind. But if you solve problems beyond your comprehension, it will help to "expand" your capabilities a little when solving problems.
As a not so good but simple example, can you pass sokoban? It seems difficult, but solvable, right? What if there is a huge map with +1K moves and only one correct decision?

Puzzles - help when the task has more than one option to achieve the correct result with one solution.
That is, in two stages: first we look for a solution, and then we look for the optimal solution.
For example, the Sokoban game helps a lot to develop the logic of thinking.
Also, turn-based strategies .
The best option is non-fast (or turn-based) games with NP-complete objectives.
