Do I need to reboot Debian after updating kernel packages?

Hello!
My servers have quite a lot of uptime, so I don't really want to restart them, however, security is more important to me. Therefore, the question arose - is it necessary to reboot the server after installing kernel updates (linux-image-3.X.-X-amd64 packages) or is Debian able to apply such patches on the fly? I use the kernel from the standard repository.

Yes need. Without additional tools, it is impossible to replace the kernel without restarting.

You can always check which kernel is currently using the uname -a command.
