Do I need to periodically reboot the server power supply?

Please help resolve the dispute.
The administration claims that all physical servers need to be rebooted once a week.
Suppose all working servers are virtual machines on these physical machines and everything is duplicated. Those. reboot will not affect the work.
Tell me how it is customary to do it, maybe there are recommendations from manufacturers?
And the same goes for telecommunications equipment.
Our dispute rested on the fact that the inscription uptime 150 days pleases me, but it is vice versa.

Reboot in Linux is needed to update the kernel. The only good reason ;)
Power reset - there is no such requirement at all. The only thing you can think of for this is to monitor the state of the power supply capacitors;)

Rebooting the server unnecessarily is bad. Power surges, start-stop of the disk system - all this will not add health to the gland. And still "works - do not touch".

Rebooting just to reboot is NOT needed.
Reboot is useful for a controlled reboot to ensure that the server is not too old to boot after a shutdown. Therefore, sometimes it is possible to prolong a similar procedure to make sure that the server can boot normally.
Example:
If a bunch of updates were installed on Linux, and the server was not overloaded, there is a chance that the updates could break it. And if electricity suddenly comes up and the UPS does not survive, except for the fact that the server falls, it will turn out that it does not start at the most inconvenient moment.
Therefore, to come for the weekend, reboot, at the same time reflash the BIOS, if something useful came out there - it can be useful to keep the soul calm.
But rebooting once a week, also purely according to electromechanical requirements, is complete nonsense.

Responsible for telecommunications equipment.
Yes, I believe periodic rebooting of duplicated devices is necessary. At one time, a problem was discovered with cisco devices - due to defective memory chips, the device lost functionality after a reboot. Considering that memory chips are a fairly common and common component, you should expect similar behavior from devices from any vendor. And it's far better to discover this problem or another during a controlled reboot, with engineers on site, with action plans in place, than to discover it after a power outage.

There is no need for reboots. With the exception of crashes, updates and upgrades that require a reboot.
The need to keep uptime - it depends on the situation, in some cases it is important, sometimes not.
In general, if reboots do not harm your business, you can reboot.
But there is no need for this.

Once a week is definitely not necessary. Once in a couple of months, so that the self-test of the iron can be chased - you can.

To the above answers - frequent reboots of the server are dangerous, they can cause a thermal load on the electronics and thus disable the server altogether. Read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stress_(mechanics).

Servers with UNIX and Linux reboot only during major updates and maintenance.
Servers on Windows need to be rebooted every week !!!
