Do I need special hosting for the mobile application database?

Wrote a mobile application on Ionic v1. The application displays some data from the database. The database is stored on a hosting (on one of the usual virtual hosting on the Internet, SQL database). I wondered if my application communicates quickly enough with the database, do I need to switch to VDS and in what cases should I do this?

When it slows down, then move on.
Everything will most likely rest on the number of users.
