Do I need blind 10-finger typing?
Experienced coders, share your experience, is it necessary?
I took a course in Russian layout, settled on special characters, in principle, it’s not bad to print, but in most cases I still take my native 2-4 fingers.
Is it worth it to master the English layout course?
How many fingers do you use to type and how is it displayed at speed?

I use all ten and at this moment I can look at another interlocutor.
Personally, I did not take any courses - I just tried to press the key from memory and with the right finger. As a result - somewhere in a month the speed increased and blind typing appeared in lat / kyril layouts.
Learn a very useful skill both for coding and for communicating with the team / customer in instant messengers, setting tasks and more.
Speed will come with practice.
Here, in the answers, the guys for some reason put an emphasis on speed and the fact that it is not needed. But I would refer ten-finger dialing not to high-speed typing, but to free and unconstrained typing. You are like a bird in flight. Do not be distracted by the keyboard, everything is at the level of reflexes. You can only focus on what really matters. In a word - thrill.
You should try to enjoy your work. Blind typing is one step in this direction.
Master programming better, and the speed of touch typing will appear on its own, both on special characters and on all layouts
. And the speed of work very rarely rests precisely on typing speed
The programmer does not need speedy typing skills, he prioritizes reading text from the screen with careful thought, and not fast typing.
For quick printing of the necessary constructions in the normal text editors of the developer, there is intellisence, its use is aimed at reducing the number of keystrokes.
I use six fingers. I type very fast compared to my colleagues.
The thumbs only work on the spacebar and system keys.
Little fingers only on return and tab/shift. I can’t type with my little fingers - either the features are like that, or I just didn’t finish my studies. But it's terribly inconvenient to use them for letters.
I think you shouldn't bother too much with the perfect typing technique - it's just a tool, not the basis of your profession.
Just replace a few months of work in the IDE with work in a text editor, and blind ten-finger typing will come to you.
The blind typing method is just a tool that helps you not to be distracted from the monitor when typing code.
I do not agree with those noted here - this skill significantly adds speed and accuracy to the set, saves strength over long distances. Yes, at first the typing speed can be ridiculous, no more than 30-40 words per minute.
The main difference from the usual full or partial peeping at the keyboard is that you correct mistakes immediately, and not after typing, and this saves time and effort. In addition, from personal experience - you are less distracted.
Naturally, when programming, the requirements for the process itself are more than just when typing, since special characters are used. We'll have to really try to make them submit to the numbers. More time will be spent than studying and working out typing a simple text.
And yes, 10 finger touch typing won't make you a good programmer.
But out of two people of the same level, I would choose the one with blind typing.
Not only do I use 10 fingers for typing, but I work on individual layouts for Russian and English to optimize comfort and speed. I use hundreds of shortcuts in applications, I use the programming keyboard to work with macros that I have sewn into the keyboard itself, and so on and so forth.
You spend most of your life in front of a computer, but surely the increase in quality and comfort from work does not matter?
-------
I'm sure everyone gradually comes to such things, for whom working at a computer is a part of life.
You are at the beginning of this journey, make an effort and learn a couple of dozen keys, it's not difficult.
I will say unequivocally - Yes!
