Denwer - what is the purpose of these two directories?

I have a question about Denver. I have Denver installed on drive E, during installation it asks to create another drive, such as virtual, drive Z. When I work on a project (on WordPress), I noticed that all folders and files on drive E and Z are identical, and if you make changes on one disk (for example, E), then they are automatically transferred to a folder on disk Z. The question is - which directory should I work with? And what are these two folders for, if they are identical in structure?

These are not two different folders. This is one folder. It is simply also available via a virtual, shorter path.
Well, Denver is a little outdated.
