Custom theme or template for developing an online store? What to choose?

Hi
There is a task to build an IM for WordPress, there is a ready-made design that was created by the designer from scratch, i.e. not for any specific WP theme.
How to do it right? Design a template, make it a custom WP theme, provide woocommerce support and try to make it all friends?
Or is it better to select a ready-made theme and, if necessary, change something already in it?
Share your experience, what would you do?
Obviously, I don’t have much experience, since I ask such questions, but I think (I hope) I can handle it)), I would like to get experienced advice so as not to move along a deliberately false path.

I agree with the previous speaker in terms of creating my own topic, but I cannot help but notice that it is still better to create your own topic on the basis of something ready-made. From myself I recommend underscores - underscores.me
This is an absolutely zero template, in which there is nothing superfluous, but only sheer benefit.
