At the expense of an incorrect installation, it is unlikely (is it generally hypothetically possible?), But for example, it can very well testify to marriage, is the disk new (in the sense of completely new)) ?. Whether there were mechanical influences on the disk (dropped, shaken, etc.), this could very easily lead to displacement (breakage) of the reading head.
It may also be worth checking the power supplied to the disk (for example, by connecting the disk to another computer / laptop).

listen to the crackle - it's not normal, we like to shove goods back like new ones, change them, especially since the law allows you to replace the goods.
change to the same.
