Could the ipad battery die due to a long charge?

Ipad was on charge for about 18 days. When I returned, I literally used it for a day, and the next I found that the battery was low (the corresponding sign is displayed on the screen). I put on charging, I wait, the effect is zero, the computer does not detect the device.
Could the battery have deteriorated due to a long charge? Or is it just a coincidence?

Coincidence. I have had an ipad for more than a year, and it is constantly stuck in the doc-station. And there are no such problems.
Most likely marriage, or just a malfunction. Contact service

There could be a power surge as a result of which the charging port could burn out.

No, there is a special tricky controller that, when a certain voltage on the battery is reached, actually disconnects it from charging, so that the battery is plugged in and, say, connects for a couple of seconds every minute.
So it's either mysticism, or the coincidence of some accidents. Faulty charger, docking station, bad battery, etc.

Just in case, I advise you to buy a new battery vseplus.com/product/planshety/128-akkumulyatory/ap... maybe it is out of order or try to replace the charger.
