From the social CMS know only InstantCMS. Made in Russia. By itself, it is free, some paid modules and components for it.
Of the minuses: I did not like its documentation. Didn't like it at all. And she eats a lot of memory, although she works quite briskly.
It has Ajax (based on jquery), but I won’t say how actively it is used.

It seems to me that the most reliable version of the engine for a social network is Sociel Engine (you can use both the fourth and third branches). Unfortunately, paid. But there are a lot of plugins, templates, mods, etc. for it. You can implement almost anything.
Also a variant of phpFox.
