chrome extensions working with pages from an extension

Please explain how to work with site pages from the extension, get elements, insert blocks, and track page changes. I understand that chrome.tabs is responsible for this, but then what to use and how?
How to write a notation, I imagine, I'm interested in an example of working with an open page.
