Choosing a university (again). HSE or polytechnic?
Students current and past , tell me , is the tower as cool as it tries to look ?
I wouldn't doubt it if it weren't for a few things:
Hostels are sooooo far away It
's sooooo difficult to get a scholarship
4 sessions...
At the same time, at the Polytechnic University I will have an increased scholarship in the first semester, and getting it further, as students say, is not so difficult. Plus dorms are within walking distance.
Yes, and St. Petersburg is simply cheaper than Moscow (I am from a very poor family, yes, the issue of money is very important).
Therefore, I repeat the question: are the HSE show-offs worth such straining?
Thanks in advance to everyone who answers.
UPD: direction "Informatics and Computer Engineering"

It is good to get a specialized education at HSE (related to economics, management, sociology). In 4 years of working in the IT environment, I have not yet met people who studied at HSE in IT specialties.
Cool specialists (if they studied in St. Petersburg) usually graduated from these universities: St. Petersburg State University (MatMekh or PMiPU), ITMO (where I studied in the direction you were interested in), Polytech, LETI, Bonch.
Of the two options you stated, I would choose the Polytechnic University. If you want to work in IT companies (developing/testing software/hardware), and not in companies related to the economy (trade, 1C, online stores, consulting, etc.), then an HSE diploma means nothing to an employer he will say, because IT is not a profile direction for an economic university. The HSE is valued in banking and consulting. In this area (in my opinion) it is more difficult to break into people than in IT. In IT, the financial result will directly depend on the results of the work. Relationships are important in the economy. If there are no connections, I would get an IT education at a technical university.
If you are still considering options other than HSE and Polytechnic University, I would recommend taking a closer look at ITMO. The university is just for ordinary guys (not for majors) who want to get a technical education (profile for ITMO). If you are interested, I can tell you more about ITMO.
UPD: It is important that if ITMO does not immediately enroll in the desired specialty, then you can transfer to it. Best of all - after the 1st course, while the difference in the programs is small. Translating is real if you make an effort. And you can enter any technical specialty, where there are enough points. She went down that path herself. :)
There are different dorms - there is one that is within walking distance, there are those from which you need to get on the subway. Getting a scholarship is real.
