Choosing a reliable HDD to store your videos?

I searched in this section on the topic of choosing an HDD, but I did not receive an answer. Many advise to make a RAID - this is definitely not for me.
I want to purchase an external HDD drive for my laptop, where I will store my captured videos - there can be a lot of them, so the larger the disk size, the better. But as far as I understand, the larger the size, the less reliable the device? My budget is 3000 r. Now, even for that kind of money, you can find a 2 TB disk, but won't it die in a month, taking away all my work?)
Why am I looking for, and not buying the first one that comes across, about which there are many reviews on the Yandex.market? This disk will store my recordings and video projects, which I will often edit, so it is very critical for me that the read / write speed is as high as possible, otherwise I don’t want to leave After Effects for one and a half to render videos :)
Please advise anything acceptable. If necessary, I will indicate which models I personally liked, but I do not know which one to take from the selected ones.

There are no reliable HDDs. Remember this. Even brand new HDDs from mega-cool lines are pouring in. It's a matter of luck.
Buy two. Store on them at the same time. One died, another was bought. Just don't delay buying later. And yes, in this case it is better to buy different models (or at least from different batches). Otherwise, there is a chance that they will live happily ever after, but die on the same day. Both.

a) USB 2.0 speed - 30 Mbit / s, the speed of any modern screw is more than two times at least. Therefore, you need to take USB 3.0, because even if the laptop does not support 3.0 now, then the laptop can be replaced later, and the external drive will be ready.
If the laptop is without USB 3.0, then it does not matter what type of screw - AV series, Green or budget - the USB 2.0 limitation will simply "eat" any increase in speed that you can get from one or another model. Therefore, it is impossible to talk seriously about video editing on an external USB 2.0 screw.
b) The task of “storage” and the task of “editing” are two different tasks, for which different technical solutions are being developed. Therefore, it will not work to combine both of these tasks in one device and get the maximum possible. Either in one or in the other you will lose. Or take an average one, which will be average in terms of volume, speed, and price.
A professional approach should follow the principle - do not store data in the same place where you work on it. I accidentally rubbed the wrong folder, or some program spoiled the file system, but you never know what. The mere fact that you connect an archive disk less often than a working disk already reduces the likelihood of data corruption.
c) DVD discs are no longer the cheapest storage medium. Verbatim 4.7Gb DVD-R on a spindle 100 pieces cost about 700 rubles, which is about one and a half rubles per GB. Noname is cheaper, but in any case not lower than 550 rubles, which gives a price of 1.22 rubles. for GB.
Now a 2 TB screw can be taken for 2000 rubles, which turns out to be a ruble per gigabyte. If the screw is connected only for backup, then it will last Pts. for a long time, at least five years, and then you yourself will throw it away and replace it with a petabyte :)

I have been using Western Digital MyBook (1 Tb) for a year and a half now. I store media content. No problem.
Speed - USB 2.0. Now most likely there is already 3.0, but for now I only support 3.0 on a laptop, and this is not seen in our area =)

Well, if RAID scares you, then you can simply buy two (or more) unreliable hard drives, and stupidly (manually) duplicate information on them.

I also bought a screw specifically for music and video.
Western Digital WD20EADS has been with me for more than a year - so far everything is OK (always on in the computer, but only for storage. For example, the same torrent client does not scan this disk)
Before that, there was a Western Digital WD15EADS, but it was from a defective series, so " covered up" six months later.

there are external enclosures for 2 HDDs with RAID 1 support. For example
, 2 HDDs for 1.5-2TV are bought, RAID 1 is configured.
If I'm not mistaken, WD has ready-made solutions for 2 disks.

There is no doubt about the reliability of the disks. There are exceptions, but no drive is immune from them. In most cases, disks live for years and nothing happens to them. If the “fear” is expressed solely in the lack of finances, then there is nothing to be done. If you want reliability, you have to spend money.
Raid can only be replaced by manual duplication of data. Many programs are suitable for this (there are a lot of free ones) for backing up and synchronizing data on drives.
If the “fear” is not due to the financial component, it is worth dropping it and trying it.
It is difficult to advise here, you must decide for yourself whether your data is worth the amount spent or not.

“My budget is 3000 rubles. » If you estimate the cost of your work at 3k rubles, then you shouldn’t bother with the choice, marriage can be found everywhere, so little depends on the choice of a particular model. If, however, more, then I advise you to listen to the advice above, or at least buy a second disk and keep copies on it.

I store my data on a mirror volume (soft raid, Win 7), no comments.
When one disk died, it replaced and recreated the mirror volume. Convenient, reliable and simple.
There are such disks: market.yandex.ru/model.xml?hid=91033&modelid=6053667
Reliability is either data mirroring or data backup.

I would buy any external hard drive with good reviews. And at home I would organize a network drive with RAID from Adaptec, for example. During the day, you can download to an external drive, and in the evening you can synchronize the drive with the storage. You can also make remote access via WebDav. This, of course, is entirely for geeks. But cool and relatively reliable.
