Choosing a hard drive for a laptop

The hard drive on the laptop began to crumble, in connection with which I had a question for the habra community. What is the current situation on the hard drive market, which manufacturers do you recommend (we are talking about >=500Gb, 2.5", SATAII)? Is it worth taking drives with a rotation speed of 7200 rpm, or are they too noisy?

I think the question here is more like this: you need a speed of 7200. if not, then 5400 for the eyes and, in addition, it will be less heated
, look at the models from WD Scorpio Blue (they are SATA II, just check if your sata2 laptop will pull)

if you really need speed, then SSD, 7200 does not give such a big increase

7200 is worth it, and SSD is even better :)

a chic option (however, for financial reasons, I have not yet implemented it myself) - a fast and inexpensive ssd for 30 GB is installed instead of a cd-drive, an OS is installed on it. and the screw (I join the opinion that WD Scorpio Blue is the best choice) - for everything else.

I once bought myself a 7200 200 Gb at a price of 5400 320 Gb. I did not conduct tests, but subjectively - I did not notice an increase in speed. So if I were you, I would buy a 5400.
Or an SSD, of course. Although they also have disadvantages.

I use Seagate ST9500420AS Momentus 7200.4… I took it at the beginning of summer.
I noticed that at +37 it gets very hot, but now it is practically not felt.
The increase in performance, it seemed to me, was ... Windows began to move a little faster. Perhaps because of the buffer in 16Mb.
There is no noise just because of the rpm. Runs quieter than the hitachi 5400 that was originally installed. Especially in hitachi annoying click at the time of shutdown.
Plus, I read somewhere that he has tricky hit protection... but I can't confirm.
At the expense of sata2-sata1 ... there is backward compatibility as elsewhere.

Replaced in my netbook FUJITSU MHZ2160BH G2 (160 GB) with WDC WD5000BPVT-00HXZT1 (500 GB).
In terms of performance, subjectively it seems a bit faster. But the new screw rustles louder during operation, unlike the previous one, which was not heard (well, except when starting / stopping). But again, it's worth considering that my netbook is pretty quiet. In a full-sized laptop, I think this will not be heard.

And, are there any large-capacity hard drives with a rotation speed even slower than 5400 rpm?
