Cassandra and php5 - what can be the tuning and performance parameters?

Need advice - i7 16GB Debian 7 x64 server has Cassandra 2.0.9 installed with CQL3 via PDO. One node provides inserts of about 3.5 thousand per second (that is, on a par with MySQL), although they write at 45 thousand per second (on 4 nodes). Twisting configs for allocated memory - no effect (and generally there are not enough settings). Actually the question itself - where is the bottleneck that does not allow to increase productivity?
PDO, CQL3 or the fact that there is only one node?
Can anyone advise a convenient and fast Cassandra driver for php5.4 not older than six months and with good documentation?
