Can I get negative feedback?

I took an urgent project on Upwork. As it turned out, there was no need to cling to any opportunity for a first job. I wrote to the client that I would not have time to finish by the deadline. He sent a request for a refund.
Can he somehow spoil my reputation after I confirm the return?
