Can I be held responsible for distributing the source code of a proprietary program?
I have a torrent with the sources of the Presto engine (and not only it) and there are two peers (one from Russia and the other from Slovakia). These peers have downloaded just about as much as I have given, then ₴there is everything downloaded from me (it seems that I am the only seed that they managed to find). Actually the question is: if these are copyists, can they make me bear responsibility for the distribution? And what is the maximum punishment for such distribution (this is not a film and not music)

Listen, you come here so uncomplicated and throw out some cunning combinations of your invented conditions, which, in your opinion, should somehow change the usual and generally accepted order of things.
No, your intricacies will not change this order, and it is as follows:
- any software has its own owner of the exclusive right;
- this owner of the exclusive right establishes the mode and procedure for the use of the relevant object of intellectual property;
- if this regime is violated by misuse, then liability arises;
- no one cares under what circumstances you violated someone else's right;
> can I be made responsible for the distribution? And what a ... punishment ...
You painted everything in such detail, well, you didn’t even forget to mention where your imaginary copyists come from.
But they forgot the only detail indispensable for the question - where are you from?
Everything is a little easier in this world.
They download it to sell it to someone later.
When they try to sell, the buyer will report to Interpol.
They will find out from whom they downloaded.
And then they will come to you.
Can.
This is just written in that part of the EULA, which we all usually skip :) It doesn't matter how it was distributed. It is important that the law was violated :) Yes, they will be the first to take those who leaked from you, and when they point at you, they will get to you.
The amount of damage is set by the copyright holder - and this is not necessarily the author :)
