Can I access someone else's computer without using viruses?

Good afternoon! I'm interested in the question: can I access someone else's computer without using virus programs? And if so, how does this happen? And where can I read in more detail about such computer hacking (interested in a book, article)?
PS I am writing an article and it is interesting to know.
