Can a laptop close due to RAM?

Good afternoon, I have an Asus x550c laptop in my hands, on board 4 gb ddr3, as it turned out, this was not enough, I decided to buy more memory, I found on the Internet the sale of the same laptop in parts (the laptop closed for an unknown reason), the seller sells 8gb 1 bar, he has a total of 12 gb, however

https://www.dns-shop.ru/product/3d599f809f1d30b1/n... The

maximum amount of memory that can be installed is 8 GB

I had a question, but did his laptop close from "wrong memory"? after all, the maximum amount of memory is 8gb, what difficulties can I face when buying and installing memory?

Very unlikely.
Manufacturers often write strange limits on the amount of RAM, I, in my memory, exceeded it by 2 times.
Maximum - the laptop simply will not boot, but it will not burn out, that's for sure.
