Burnt laptop adapter?

Good afternoon!
The story is as follows: Asus laptop, new, worked fine for two months.
Yesterday the electricians changed the wiring inside the chandelier. As a result, this chandelier stopped turning off, they changed the switch. All OK. When the laptop adapter was inserted into the network (already plugged into the laptop), the energy (plugs) was cut off. We tried other sockets, etc., while the kilowatt kettle works without problems.
Question : can, who faced? What could have caused such an incident?
I always thought that if the adapter "burned out", then it simply does not work. Maybe it smells bad.
Thank you.

Well, he could “burn out” in such a way that a banal short circuit occurred at the input. And in this case, sticking it into the socket is equivalent to the fact that you connect the contacts in the socket with a nail. Knocking out “traffic jams” and machine guns at the same time is a completely natural consequence.
Get a tester and check it out.

What else works in this outlet? (There is an opinion that two phases go to the outlet) That it’s not a pity to put it in there, just be careful.

Friend, just think, if a person asks such a question, then he probably doesn’t even have the same screwdriver at home, and even more so a meter of such a class that will not burn out when two phases are supplied. These are pro devices. And they cost a lot of money. And they don't just lie around at home.

I would feel sorry for the voltmeter, because he will also be a khan. You need to take a probe screwdriver and rub it first, if it shows the phase in both “holes”, then everything will be clear.
