Building applications to automate work?
Dear pros and just connoisseurs,
please help me make a choice,
I just can’t decide on a choice.
I myself work as an engineer, I made myself a website in html and css to search for customers to work, uploaded it to the Internet. Then I decided to try PHP, made myself a website with form handlers for a little help, speeding up the writing of project documentation, but I'm not sure if this is what I was looking for.
As I already clearly understood that in programming, as in any field, to become a good specialist you need to read a lot, learn, practice. I have to deal with this a lot in my main job, as I already wrote, I am an engineer - I design, carry out calculations, audit, etc., but I really want to program, I liked it, I want it not to change the profile of work, but because what you liked. But since over time I was straining to study programming, the idea arose to leave programming as a hobby for now, but to choose a programming language that would help me automate my main work, i.e. combine business with pleasure, i.e. if I study programming hard, then it should definitely help with my main job)
Those. to make, for example, a window application so that I could put information into it, it did some calculations, analysis, worked with the database and, as a result, formed the result in the Word program.
Naturally, it is desirable to choose a language in order to implement this and so that the entry threshold is not high, since I am basically zero in programming.
As it seems to me, it is necessary to look towards C#.
Please give me advice on which programming language to choose: in order to implement my idea for work, so that I can understand it a little bit, so that if everything goes well it would be a promising programming language, if I suddenly want to delve into it and try my luck with work?

There are many options for your description.
As an example Java. Lots of vacancies. You can write for servers or desktop. Works with documents using the apache poi library.
I also suggest considering python, c#, javascript. PHP - alas, I can only advise as a last resort, since it is normal to use it somewhere other than sites is stressful.

for development under Windows + it is best to be good and tight friends with the office c#
