Broadcast flood?

Somehow in the morning, they call from work and say that they have lost control of several workshops of the plant. Upon arrival, I discovered that someone was seriously spoiling the air, there was no time for analyzes, the source of the "noise" was found quickly, the network was restored. Noisy NPort 5210, after a power reset everything worked fine. The question is, how can you be safe in the future? Will a layer 3 router help? And what is the correct name for this problem?

And what is the correct name for this problem?
Broadcast Storm.
The question is, how can you be safe in the future?
To combat broadcast storms, broadcast domains themselves are limited by spreading them across VLANs or subnets using routers. There are also switches with support for functionality that prevents this phenomenon. An L2/L3 switch might help in your case. It will cost less than a router.
