Are there side scrolling devices on the case?

Are there devices that have the ability to scroll using the sensor on the side (where we usually have our thumb in a vertical grip) and if not, maybe there are objective reasons for that?
With a landscape grip, the thumb also rests and moves freely along the body.
If you scroll along the case with your thumb, you block the screen content less and dirty it less.
Upd .: I found a similar idea, using gestures on the fingerprint sensor, which is on the back of the phone.

But it is not configurable for smooth page scrolling. Perhaps due to the device of the sensor itself.
The location of the sensor on the back side is convenient with a vertical grip, but not quite with a horizontal one. So the question remains.
Upd2: here's a similar question, is it possible to use the fingerprint scanner on the side to scroll in Sony.

One of the respondents tried using the program to hang the opening of the message center on this sensor, but there were many false positives.
But if you wish, you could make this function disabled, and configure the software normally. And besides, touching the sensor will more often falsely trigger than swiping your finger along it. Such a feature looks too cool to be technically acceptable to implement. Perhaps there are other reasons.

Android Oreo has opened the possibility for third-party applications to use the fingerprint sensor to recognize gestures. This is secure, as the API implies that gesture recognition on the sensor is only possible if the sensor is not currently being used for authentication.

IMHO, no - an unnecessary complication of the design.
but before they were, though not with the help of a sensor, but a wheel.
