Are there headphones to track insertion into the ear?
Smartphones can detect if headphones are plugged into the jack. There is a class of applications that monitor the status of the connector and can turn on / off music or radio playback. Are there any headphones so that you can track the insert in your ear? It seems to me that technically this is not very difficult to implement using some kind of capacitive sensor in the manner of what is used in touch screens. Maybe there are already implementations? Googled but couldn't find it.

Well, in principle, experiment with a high-frequency signal, pulses applied to the headphone channels, and observe how the characteristics of the environment change. But it will not work if one ear is inserted. In theory, the metal contact on the headphone case and find out stupidly with a dial tone.
Capacitive sensors around the perimeter of the earphone, like those in touch screens? They won’t work in a pocket ... You can protect yourself from other false positives by taking into account the touch area ...
