a piece of good adhesive tape (construction gray is very sticky).

I did not see general advice, mostly purely homemade. Girls wrap the wire with a thread, it’s beautiful and you won’t tear it. The boys use electrical tape, the most Kommersant somehow pull the heat shrink on their favorite places. It depends only on your imagination and the things available in the household.

It's easier to change the plug to a more suitable one, IMHO. There are plugs with a soft coil spring at the output, you can see where headphones are used more often and, depending on the situation, take a straight or “broken (G)” plug so that the wires are less bent. Or change the wire to a thicker and softer one. Or change the plug periodically. Why are you worried about this at all?

I bought this Neutrik angled plug , and I also carry a player (fortunately, thin) in a small jeans pocket (which is turnkey). Of course, it didn’t save me from breaking the wire at all, but now I solder the jack less often.
