Arduino Duemilanove won't flash

I didn’t want to flash from the very beginning, but after reinstalling the USB Serial Port drivers it worked. After a while it stopped again.

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51

At the same time, the TX lamp never lights up, only RX flashes five times. But at the moment of connecting via USB, both bulbs wink friendly.

I tried it on different computers with Windows XP and Windows 7.

The exact same error appears if you try to flash it without a board connected.

Maybe the chip burned out (although I didn’t even have time to try connecting different diodes, etc.)? If so, how to check it?

With a pipe, in my opinion, problems in 99.99% of cases should be looked for in a piece of iron (unless, of course, the system is littered with viruses and crooked programs).

I had the same bug. I even soldered the flasher through the LPT port - it did not help. I bought another arduino, this time UNO - rearranged the ATmega chip - everything is ok. Apparently, you also burned something on the board itself. It looks like Duemilanove is not very reliable.
