I just installed ubuntu and started installing apache2 I installed
it, but mod_rewrite refuses to work. that is, I turned it on (a2enmod rewrite) restarted Apache, but after going to site.loc/sign-in I got 404.
Apache logs have this:

[Wed Sep 23 00:55:36.910670 2015] [mpm_prefork:notice] [pid 12816] AH00163: Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.5.9-1ubuntu4.11 configured -- resuming normal operations
[Wed Sep 23 00:55:36.910920 2015] [core:notice] [pid 12816] AH00094: Command line: '/usr/sbin/apache2'
