Android push notifications with Google Cloud Messaging?

Tell me, is there an example of how to use GCM in your application? Interested in an example of both server and client parts.
The official Google tutorial refers to this project , which, however, uses an outdated version of the API (GCMBroadcastReceiver, now marked as deprecated) and therefore cannot even compile it. All other tutorials that I found also use the deprecated API, or in general GC2M, which was deprecated back in 2012.
