Hello. The question such is the computer with the working RAID1. You need to add a hard drive to the computer, but not to the RAID. How does it usually happen? I just connect it and it will be seen as a separate device with partitions or not?

Connect a new drive on a turned off PC.
If the new disk was previously partitioned, we will see partitions.
If the new disk has not been previously marked, then it can only be seen through "My Computer - Management - Disk Management"

It all depends on where the disk will be connected - if to a raid controller - then it may be necessary to say in the controller management that this disk "should be available" - for example, create a new [pseudo]RAID volume from this disk. If the disk is connected to a regular on-board sata|achi motherboard controller, then the disk will be available without affecting the controller.
