Accesses sites only through a proxy

Suddenly the pages stopped opening, as if there was no Internet. But the network icon in the tray does not show an error, and clients (Skype, Quip) work fine. And here's what's interesting, other browsers also give a connection error, but if I go to the Mozilla through the FriGate plugin (in fact, that's how I print this post), then everything is fine.
What to do? What settings to use?

This may be the case when there is an active connection to a VPN that has the "Use as default gateway" setting set.
