Access to a local network behind a router (D-link DIR 320)?

Good afternoon, at work I have a desktop computer under Windows that is connected to an internal local network, and I would like to be able to sometimes work in it from a macbook. At home, there is an old unused DIR-320 on the farm that is not a pity to sacrifice in order to achieve a result, but a colleague says that nothing will come of it since the router will work with its NAT and categorically points a finger at its Apple USB Ethernet Adapter for 3k+, however my intuition tells me that there are other solutions, besides, with an adapter you won’t go farther than a chair.

on the hospital to enable remote access, you will have to assign a password to the user
on the router to configure port forwarding 3389 to the address of the hospital.
Well, it's better to get a static real address for your connection from the provider.
And advise your colleague to no longer sell Apple equipment left and right, not understanding why;)
