About the monitor connected to the laptop?

Good time to all. I bought myself a monitor, connected it via hdmi, it is possible via vga, but that's not the point, I have a built-in video card, and nvidia 2GB, as I understand it, when I connected the monitor, it can only be output through the built-in one, it turns out everything is processed only by it and my nvidia is not working?

Everything is handled by nvidia.

Graphics cards are switched depending on the task. That is, for the desktop, the built-in video card is used for better power saving, while playing games, a more productive discrete video card is used, in this case Nvidia.
Switching rules, the operating mode is configured in the software from the video cards.

Thank you all for the answer, I just thought that since the monitor was initially connected to the built-in one, then everything already works on it, and if, depending on the load, Nvidia will be selected, that's good)
Then I was already upset, I thought there was a monitor, but what's the point no, because basically the work is done with graphics in FS, and it is very important that nvidia works)
Once again, thanks to everyone for the help;)
