A smart refrigerator that keeps track of its contents and orders what is missing - a dream or a reality?

I heard about them many times, but something is not seen on sale, at least in the UK. Or am I wrong?
And then something I was tormented by remembering what to buy, and having bought what to eat first of all, because the expiration date passes, and what can be done later.

Rather, it is not yet very relevant for the population, although all sorts of time managers find their niche. At home, people want variety and amenities. Therefore, even pasta, rarely anyone buys the same brand for a long time. Not to mention the delicacies.
Well, a bunch of technical issues: the organization of address storage on the shelves, tracking the use of a particular product. What if you bought something and left: the refrigerator should decide that you didn’t like it and not order anymore? Or vice versa - you did not like the product and you threw it all away. Guests came, they got married, a child was born. Etc.
In fact, this is a lot of statistical work that needs to be technically supported (enter data, set up consumption modes). Here, storekeepers do not always mark the goods, although they are paid for this and fined, but you want to click in the refrigerator after work "-2 sips", but how much is this in grams? And the child ran up and spilled everything on the floor :)

you have four cucumbers to eat today.

Well, then we will definitely be in a "terrible" future. It was in some movie: “you can’t have fat today - you have bad urine tests - refrain from sweets as well.”

A dream :)
So far, we have not heard about technologies for determining the freshness of tomatoes by appearance or smell. Or, for example, it is also difficult to distinguish meat from dumplings in the freezer.
And it would be great. You get up in the morning - bam, alert: you have four cucumbers that you need to eat today.

So far there is no such thing. Although technically, in general, it’s not particularly difficult - an RFID with an expiration date and a product name pasted on the product and the whole business is quite feasible even according to DYI.
