Is it possible to write posts in the sandbox not for the purpose of getting an invite, but for the purpose of gaining karma? If not, where can one write such posts with zero karma?

Either an adequate article in recovery mode (difficult path), or adequate answers to questions in Q&A (an easier, but risky path).

With negative karma, recovery mode will become available (http://habrahabr.ru/info/help/karma/), with karma 0-5, you can ask a question in Q&A and, if the article is needed, get some karma for its publication.
