2D graphics on the web, what to use?

The management set the task to develop a WEB application that should draw various graphics (schemes) according to data from the MSSQL database. Moreover, the graphics should be interactive.
Tell me, who knows what can be used to implement this task.
The first thing that came to mind was HTML5 and its canvas.
Maybe there are some graphical web engines or something else ??
