You need a lot of RAM, which is more profitable to take Intel or AMD?
I want at least 256 Gb of memory (ECC), and 512 Gb is better. Processor performance doesn't really matter. I want to assemble it myself, i.e. expensive ready-made solutions are not interesting. What will be cheaper platform on Intel or AMD?
Or maybe it makes sense to make two servers with 128 Gb each and it will definitely be cheaper than one server with 256 Gb?

256GB of memory and self-collection? Strange desires, never encountered such. Usually people take platforms, some thread Dell 720, IBM X3650, HP DL380 G8, but I don’t even know if it will be possible to buy a suitable mother in a store.

Bulldozers in general are good prots. And cheaper (and chipsets for them are cheaper).
But you still need to look for what is cheaper specifically in your case. You don't even have a city in your profile ;)
Maybe you should consider the option of a pci-ex ssd drive?
The speed, of course, is an order of magnitude less than that of ddr3 memory and there are write restrictions,
but on the other hand, you can add non-volatile to a regular PC, it seems there are options in terabytes.
The price is probably more expensive than a memory kit, but cheaper than a complete server.
