Good to all that you have there. A terrible problem happened to me - there was an irresistible desire to receive SMS messages on a PC. It seems that there is nothing easier, bought a modem and rejoice. But, we are not looking for easy ways. I'm not so interested in the very possibility of receiving messages, as in the process of creating hardware, and then the software for this.
Actually the question is: where can I find descriptions of the principles of working with a SIM card? Or at least a diagram of the device that works with it?
I would like something in the spirit of “So, dear friends, today we will prepare our phone. We need transistors, diodes, broccoli, a couple of wires and tomatoes. You can limit yourself to dry technical information, but only in Russian, otherwise I’m not at all “sprechen zi english”.
I would appreciate any kick in the right direction.

Until you learn enough English to read datasheets, you can forget about hardware.

Sim900 + max232 or ft232
There is nothing easier... And receive messages in the terminal.
